At Mazenod College, students are encouraged to pursue and develop leadership qualities that engage them in formal and informal opportunities. The school provides a variety of experiences in all aspects of community, environment and education, where students can fulfil their leadership potential.
We believe that leadership is not an opportunity to simply wear a badge, but rather an opportunity to share oneself with fellow staff, students, and the wider community. The student voice gives each student the opportunity to participate in decisions that impact on the school community and strategic direction. It is anticipated that Mazenod College leaders share a passion for nurturing the quality of student life at school, selfless dedication to mission, determination and compassion for social justice and the environment, and the ambition to make a difference in the school and wider community.
The Year 12 Student Leaders represent the school and student body, lead student council, facilitate portfolio projects with Prefects and House Captains, provide a positive role model presence on a day-to-day basis, coordinate and facilitate activities across year levels, while promoting a positive school culture.
Lead projects and facilitate leadership related to specific interests, areas or projects identified by the Principal, Deputy Principals, Deans, Year Level Coordinators, Student Leadership Team and Student Representative Council.
Two elected students in Year 9 represent the Junior School year levels in the student leadership.
Year 11 students are selected to become buddies for Year 7 students and work collaboratively with the Year 7 Coordinator to support all students in the cohort.
Lead House teams at school sporting events including planning, developing and promoting House spirit.
One student selected as Captain from Year 12 to represent the school Debating and Public Speaking teams.
One student selected as Captain to represent the Performing Arts and one student to represent the development of technology.
The elected student will represent the Homeroom at Year Level SRC meetings on issues of importance related to the respective year level or school. Assist with projects deemed by the Student Leadership Team, Student Council, Prefects and Middle School Leaders.
The elected student will represent the class at Social Justice meetings, facilitate action plans and participate in the following projects: Mission Action Day, Oblate Projects, Refugee Week, Monash Community games, Winter Sleep Out in Year 10, R U OK Day, NAIDOC week, Oblate Christmas appeal and Vinnie’s Christmas appeal. Students will represent the class at Year Level Liturgy meetings and assist with projects deemed by the Student Leadership Team, Student Council, Prefects, Middle School Leaders and Religious Education Coordinators
