In Years 7-10, students identify and construct scientific questions and problems that they can investigate and make predictions based on scientific knowledge. They plan experiments, identifying variables to be changed, measured and controlled. They consider accuracy and ethics when planning investigations, including designing field or experimental methods. Students summarise data from different sources and construct representations of their data to reveal and analyse patterns and relationships and apply these when justifying their conclusions.
A quest to better understand our world through observation, experimentation and research.

Science is more than just knowledge. Science is a way of thinking. The professional Science teachers at the College encourage our students to be inquisitive and question all that is happening around them. The junior curriculum feeds into the four key branches of Science in the VCE curriculum – Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Psychology.
Junior Curriculum
Enhanced and Accelerated Programs
At Year 8, a select entry Enhancement STEM program sees students combine robotics, coding, design and technology to create arcade machines and program drones. This continues into the Year 9 Enhancement Robotics course. Year 9 also sees student opt-in to an elective Forensic Science course, discovering the world of crime scene investigations.
At Year 10, students are offered the chance to apply for Enhancement Biology, a course that sees a number of students complete Units 3&4 Biology in Year 11.
VCE Studies
Mazenod is proud of a history of strong results across the four principal branches of science in the VCE – Physics, Chemistry, Psychology, and Biology.
