Mazenod teaching staff work collaboratively in planning and implementing successful lessons to engage and inspire students. Mathematics teachers display a wide range of High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS) in classrooms. The use of explicit teaching and worked examples enable teachers to succinctly plan structured mathematics lessons which cater for all ranges of abilities. Students are required to bring a Summary Book into each lesson, which enables students to continue engaging with previous content, make links with new concepts and discover new skills.
The pursuit for absolutes, truth, and reason.

The Mathematics faculty prides itself on our fantastic results across all year levels. A traditional standard integrated with modern teaching methods prove fruitful for our young men in discovering the beauty of the contemporary mathematical world.

Technology
Students are exposed to online interactive programs such as Desmos and Geogebra. These programs are integrated into everyday classroom lessons to provide visual representations of complex numerical concepts. In Year 9 all students are required to obtain a CAS calculator, technology which enables students to solve equations, graph functions, summarise and represent data and create programs with simple coding.
Pathways
In the Junior years, high performing students are invited to attend an enhancement class that runs once a week and focuses on uncovering some mathematical concepts that will be required in the middle and senior years. After Year 9, students who may require extra support are invited to select Year 10 General Mathematics, our personalised bridging course that provides students with the skills needed for VCE General Mathematics. Students can also select VCE Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics, which many University courses require as prerequisite subjects.
