History Premiers Award

24 July 2009

On Tuesday the Premier’s Award Ceremony was held at the Melbourne Convention Centre. In attendance was the Governor of Victoria, the Premier and various other dignitaries. The occasion was the annual acknowledgment of the outstanding students of VCE Examinations of 2008. It is an impressive ceremony and affords one the opportunity to see and hear who the outstanding scholars are and from whence they have come. On that occasion Mazenod was represented by Marcus Hickleton who received the Premier’s Award in recognition of being one of Victoria’s top five students in History in the 2008 VCE. His passion for the Russian and American revolutions made enjoyable with many hours dedicated work he put into the subject, thereby scoring a perfect 50. His teacher Mr. Wright commented that his life was balanced by other interests such as football where he represented the College whilst also playing for the Old Collegians team on the weekend. This is the team that recently participated in Blazeaid – building fences for those farmers affected by the bushfires. Marcus was Mazenod’s second highest ranked Humanities’ student with a score of 99.20 and has gone on to study Arts Law at Monash University. He is a well rounded Citizen that Mazenod strives to foster.
