Mazenod sweeps the board at chess competition

THE ACC Open Chess Competition was held last Thursday at Kensington Community Centre, with Mazenod College winning Division 1 comfortably.

Out students continued their outstanding performance over many years, winning the Division 1 Open Chess tournament for the sixth year in succession. They finished on 51 points ahead of Simonds (2nd on 38.5), with Mazenod’s second team completing their dominance by taking out third place with 31 points.

There were numerous individuals who did very well on the day, with a few standouts: Kingsley Cheung (Year 10) Wilson Ngieng (Year 8) Vincent Ngo (Year 8) – all winning 7 matches. Sean Hyatt (Year 10) and Kevin Cheung (Year 11) winning 6 out of 7 matches.
